Word of the Day

It's "overtaxed".

Overtaxed? Poor estimating, perhaps, but if we reduced taxes by 9.1 Billion how would we pay down the debt?

Why is it that when Alberta brings in enormous surpluses and pays off the debt quickly it is seen as a good thing, but when the Federal government tries to do the same it is evidence of overtaxing?

In any case, I'd much rather have an error on this side of the ledger than on the other side.

I agree with your last thought, but I don't think I'm being inconsistent - I believe the Alberta government overtaxes us as well.

As =">expected, the opposition would like to be able to spend the surplus, and the Provinces would like more money and greater ability to tax.

This makes me even more reluctant to oppose budget forcasts that result in surplus rather than deficit - especially when the surplus is automatically applied against the debt.
